Making Progress: What We've Learned so Far...

Jellick is working on getting 5-8 iPads, along with a class set of iPods (36) and a cart. They plan on piloting in their 5th & 6th classrooms. The Planets program came in handy when a student mentioned "halfway around the world" in a small group.

Melvin is planning on videotaping interviews with students to ask how they feel about using the iPods. This should be a handy resource once we start sharing our work with other teachers and schools. Pizza Math didn't work right unless he upgraded the OS, and it takes about 1 1/2 hours to update each iPod.

Willie worked with TimeReading with his class. He had problems with students' times actually being accurate when they read. They're supposed to read it aloud, but there's no way to check for fluency.

FYI: The buyout request is due December 17th. We need to get our requests in before that date. We might consider a subscription to a tech magazine or educational periodical (several years at a time) which would make good use of funding. Also consider browsing Borders to find how-to books on using iPods.

The next meeting is scheduled for December 6th, 3:30, at Shelyn in Aurora's room, A-2.
